THIS MIGHT BE A JOKE ARTICLE. But if it is not… then clearly you don't comprehend marital Oneness (echad) or true partnership. The entire point is to live as INTIMATE ALLIES, serving each other, but not obsessively gazing at each other, but outwards in the same direction. You both live in unity in service of a glorious purpose, vision and calling on both your lives that consumes you and CALLS YOU FORTH into being, into action, into a daily re-commitment. Not drudgery of the selfish, but the joy of serving something larger than the two of you and worthy of wholehearted devotion. The secular person does not have this as a possibility. Marriage is more succesfful and enjoyable between two people that have the same CALLING on their lives.
"Love is not two people gazing at each other, but two people looking ahead together in the same direction!" - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
“This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one. Being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it what I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.” - George Berhard Shaw
